After defeating PSG about a month ago and advancing to the quarter-final, Real Madrid will face Juventus for the first time since defeating them in last year’s Champions League Final in Cardiff. This time, they meet in the quarter-final where the 1st leg takes place at Juventus Stadium in Turin.

When Juventus and Real Madrid met in Cardiff last June the Spaniards inflicted a crushing defeat on the Italians to lift the Champions League trophy. The game finished 4-1 as Cristiano and Co. wrote their names into the history books by becoming the first ever team to win back-to-back titles in the modern era. Such an immense unprecedented feat!

The quarter-final tie between these two offers Juventus a shot at redemption as they can take a step closer to winning a trophy they have not laid their hands on since 1996.

Real have won their last 3 matches in La Liga, all since eliminating PSG, and have been in much better form as of late considering how questionable they’ve been all season. They currently sit third in the league table. Juventus are first in Serie A and haven’t lost a match since November 2017. They advanced to the quarter-final after defeating a formidable Tottenham at Wembley.

There are several players Real must watch out for that have been especially dangerous for Juventus. One of them is former Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain. He has five goals in the Champions League this season and was one of the main reasons Juventus made it past Spurs.

Paulo Dybala is another player that could be trouble. While he struggled earlier in the season, he appears to be hitting top form yet again and could prove to be a dangerous weapon for them.

While Juventus are seeking redemption for their final loss last year and that will be a big motivating factor, Madrid's overall season has been such a clanging disappointment that the Champions League is now their only avenue to glory, so we can expect sparks to fly in this fixture.

Potential Starting Elevens

Real Madrid

Navas; Carvajal, Varane, Ramos, Marcelo; Modric, Casemiro, Kroos; Bale, Ronaldo, Benzema

Zidane could decide to not start with Gareth Bale, though he played exceptionally well against Las Palmas on Saturday. He’s been outstanding in most of his starts this season, scoring 11 goals in just 15 starts.

Buffon; De Sciglio, Barzagli, Chiellini, Alex Sandro; Khedira, Matuidi, Marchisio; Dybala, Cuadrado, Higuain

Max Allegri himself could go with several different options in his starting lineup. He has Mandzukic, Douglas Costa, Lichtsteiner, and Marchisio at his disposal to use as needed.
