Arsenal v Bournemouth match Preview

Arsenal will be fighting to remain in the top four of the English Premier League when they welcome Bournemouth to the Emirates tonight.

After winning five of their previous seven league matches, Arsenal climbed back into the Premier League top-four last weekend. Ahead of kick-off, the ‘Gunners’ have scored exactly two goals in all of their previous four PL victories. Additionally, in those four games, six of the total eight goals came in the first half.

Unai Emery’s men also boast the Premier League’s (joint) second-best home record with eleven wins, two draws and a loss. Finishing strong has been key, with the home side scoring 36.66% of their home league goals this season after the 75th minute, while also conceding just 9.1% of their home league goals in the final 15 minutes.

It’s been an underwhelming run-of-form for Bournemouth lately, with just two league wins in nine matches with two wins, two draws and five losses. Furthermore, they have so far lost all of their five away trips to the top-six this season, scoring just two goals and conceding an average of 3.4 goals per match at the other end.

Eddie Howe’s men have also managed just one win in their previous seven H2H matches against Arsenal, with over 2.5 match goals in five of those previous meetings. The same can be expected again, with Bournemouth conceding two or more in each of their last eight league away matches against all opponents.

Crystal Palace v Manchester United

Manchester United travel to Selhurst Park tonight hoping to regain their place in the top four of the Premier League table.

Crystal Palace have taken just a single league point from the last 21 available in PL home games against the top-six with a draw and six losses. Given that they are also winless against Manchester United in 12 H2H meetings, the ‘Eagles’ will need a miracle to beat them in the league for the first time since May 1991.

Despite this dreadful record, five of Palace’s last six PL home defeats against the current top-six have come by a one-goal margin. Three of the last four goals conceded in games within that category have been scored in the 15 minutes directly after half-time.

United themselves visit Selhurst Park having won by a mere single-goal margin in four of their last five trips here. On this occasion, United travel south after racking up seven successive away wins for the first time since March/April 2002. Of those seven, five have been accompanied by a clean sheet.

First-half winners in seven of their last nine matches, the ‘Red Devils’ are also particularly adept at starting away matches strongly under Ole Gunnar Solskjær and then holding out to win. This is evidenced by the fact that (excluding penalties) eight of United’s last nine away goals have arrived in the first half.

Palace have scored first in nine of their last ten matches across all competitions.
Of United’s last eight first-half away goals, a majority (five) have come in the 15 minutes immediately prior to half-time (31st-45th min).
Going back to March 2018, Palace’s last three PL home goals against the top-six have come via a Luka Milivojević penalty.

Chelsea v Tottenham Match Preview

This midweek Premier League clash offers up a London derby that could be critical in Chelsea’s feisty fight for fourth place, and Tottenham’s waning battle for the title.

Wildly unstable in recent Premier League rounds with two wins and three losses, Chelsea’s last four league matches have all been one-sided with either a big win or defeat (just one team scored with at least a two-goal victory margin). They have been fighting on four fronts, and come into this match following just two days of rest since losing the League Cup on penalties.

At home in the league, things have been better with eight wins, 4 draws and a loss conceding just nine goals - 0.69 on average per match. Furthermore, Chelsea are the only PL team yet to trail at half-time in a home match this season.

Tottenham, meanwhile, continued their draw-less league season with a disappointing 2-1 defeat at Burnley last time out. That result caused manager Mauricio Pochettino to state Tottenham can no longer be considered title contenders.

Despite that defeat, ‘Spurs’ remain the PL’s best away team with eleven wins and three draws and have scored an average of 2.21 goals per road trip (highest in the league), finding the net in all 14 matches.

Chelsea have won 60.87% of the matches where they’ve been favourites this PL season - the lowest tally of the top-six teams.
In the last ten league H2Hs, both teams have won four matches each and drawn two. Eight of those featured over 2.5 goals, five produced over 3.5.
Of Tottenham’s 14 PL away games, 71.43% have featured three goals or more.
